Card Contest Winners from Saturday's Quarterly Meeting

These two ladies won in the "Stamp Camp" category. 

This means that their card would take more than five minutes to make.

Jackie Cooley made a very creative card that can definitely bring a big smile to your face!

Supplies:

• Punches:  1 3/4" Circle (face); Boho Blossooms (tip of the hat); Scallop Trim Border Punch; Scallop Trim Corner Punch; Ornament Punch(hat); Owl Punch (eyes, nose);
• Bigz Dies:  Stocking Accesnts and Serif essentials
• Big Shot Polka dot Embossing Folder for the "J" and the "Y".

Notes:  The Frostwood Lodge DSP for the gift is 3 7/8"x 1 5/8" and the "Ribbon" on the package is 1/4" thick.  Jackie said that before punching, her white c/s was 4 1/4"x 5 1/4".  She punched the corners first and then filled in along with side useing the border punch.

 I would call Kimberly Stack's card, "Simple Elegance".

Here are Kimberly's notes about her card:

• Door handle is 1/4x 1 1/2" (curled on both ends) Espresso
• Very Vanilla c/s (all is sponged with Espresso)
• Door:  4"x 5 1/2"
• Large Insert:  1 1/2"x 2 3/4" (x2)  inside:  1 1/4"x 2 1/2" (x2)
• Small insert:  1 1/2"x 2" (x2)  Inside:  1 1/4"x 1 3/4" (x2)  (All of the inside door inserts are mounted with dimensionals.)
• Wreath:  1 3/4" Circle Punchwith 1" circle Punch to punch out the inside circle.
• Snail the Boho Punch in Old Olive DSP to the circle wreath.  She used 9 to 11 flowers from the Boho punch and ran them through the Snow Burst Embossing Folder.
• Rhinestones:  she colored with them with a red sharpie. They are very bright and sparkly in person.
  
• Real Red 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon

Wednesday Night Stamp Club

This week is really busy with my two Stamp Clubs and in prep for my quarterly meeting on Saturday.
I thought it would just be fun to let you peek in and see my Wednesday night stamp club.

Walk to End Alzheimers

Last Saturday thirteen of us participated in one of the Walks to end Alzheimers.

This was Shelly's idea and she did a fabulous job at organizing us!  We had matching t-shirts.

There were 300 people participating in the march.  Together we raised about $159,000.

My husband, Dave, passed away in December of 2009 with Alzheimers so it was an honor to participate in this walk.  It was an emotional day for us.

Medallion Christmas Tree

I have put together a tutorial for this unique Medallion Christmas Tree that I designed last week.

Be sure to read my notes that I have added at the end of this blog.  They are not in my tutorial.

This is going to be a perfect little gift for a teacher or an office worker.  I am going to add several to my table for the holidays!

The tree stands 6 1/2" tall to the top of the star.

You could always try a Garden Green version of this tree, too!

Notes:  Now that I have made my second tree, I have several notes to add that are not in the tutorial. 

• When you get to the last (top) layer, you may want to simply hold it with your fingers.  It would be really nice if someone else could put the little circle on for you while you hold it. (Wishful thinking probably)  It is hard to "corral" it because it is so small.
• I used between 40 and 50 Silver Glimmer Circles on the tree.
• If your tree is a little lopsided by the time you get to the top, then build up the side that is low with HOT GLUE and you can even it out and make the top layer level.
  

Please allow up to 24 hours for the tutorial to be delivered.  It probably will not take that long, but please allow for it just in case.

Stamping at a local library

An ex-demonstrator working at a local library called me to see if I would be interested in teaching a craft class for some of their patrons.

She put out a sign up list and quickly had 16 people sign up!

Thank you to Yolanda Martinez and Andrienne Cruz for helping me on Saturday afternoon.!

We ended up with about 10 people coming.  The library pays for the class.

So with three stations and three of us helping, we had a great time and the time went very smoothly.  Here are the projects that we made.  I did all of the cutting.  They were able to use the big shot machine to emboss the Christmas Stocking only.

The stocking has another stocking on the back so that it is a gift certificate holder.

I stamped the Hand Penned Holiday greeting in Real Red.

This is box #2 from the Big Shot.  Click here for the details on how to structure this project. This project uses the Christmas Lodege Designer paper, Real Red, and Garden Green card stocks.  The instructions, however, are exactly the same.

Let's See...a Healthy Halloween Treat...

Since I could not think of one single food-type item that would fall under the category of a healthy Halloween treat, I bought pencils at the $$ Tree and here is what we made.

Shelly was over today and we had fun finishing up the treats for Joshua's party on Friday.

And here is the long view.  The candy corn (my first attempt at a treat) was difficult to put into the cello bags and they certainly are not healthy. But since I made it, I decided to show you what they look like in the cello bags.

Last of the trades from last week's meeting

Gayle Smith used the Petite Pocket Bigz Die.  I am really enjoying getting ideas of what to do with this die.  So here is a good one.

Gayle also used the Cupcake Bulder Punch and the Create a Cupcake Stamp Set.  She cut two of the Pocket Die pieces  She put the ends of the two pocket dies together and scored each piece at 4 1/4" .  Here is what the inside looks like.

The white piece on the right with the candles is 2 3/4".  It flips back and forth.  Here is the other side of it.

The last trade that I have is from Marie Leyva who made up a very cute holder for hot chocolate.

Very simple and very nice.

To make this, you start with a 11"x 4 1/4" piece of card stock (c/s).  Score it at 1" and 5 1/2".  Fold the 1" flap forward and the the 5 1/2" in the opposite direction.  That's it!  Add whatever DSP you would like adn decorate it.  I love the touch of punching a hole through the hot chocolate pouch and adding ribbon!

Here's a very clever touch that she added to the back:

She cut the top off of a 2 1/2" circle to form the cup.

Then, she punched the 3/8" Circle Punch (Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack) in the center of a 1" circle  to create the handle. 

Very nice idea! 

Wednesday, I'll be stamping with my daughter to make treats for Joshua's kindergarten for their Halloween party this Friday.

Christmas Apron with Hot Chocolate and Marshmellows and Happy Birthday to Lorraine Miles

Last Thursday some of my Stampin' Up! group came over for stamping and some business, too.  People traded if they wanted to.

Iris Tamishiro made this beautiful Christmas Apron. 

Don't you love how she used so many new products to make it ?

And here is the back.

This is a bit of an optical illusion.  The card stock pocket to this apron is in the back.  She started with an 8 1/4"x 4 1/4" piece of Soft Suede card stock.  She scored at 5 1/2" and folded the 2 3/4" piece up to the back to form the pocket for the Hot Chocolate.

On the front, Iris used the largest scallop from the Scallop Die #2 and the Holly Berry Bouquet Designer Series Paper (DSP) to form the apron.

The Dotted Scallop Border Ribbon Punch makes a perfect string for the apron.

Note: To create the candy cane, Iris cut out a red and a white candy cane.  She cut out the white portions of the candy cane and added them onto the solid red candy cane to this such a realistic effect.

When you add the DSP scallop to the front of the apron, just put the adhesive around the edges of the scallop.  The center part of the apron needs to be adhesive free so that the candy cane can slip in.

I think that you have to make up your own "armhole template" and then just continue to trace it for each apron.  The width of the very top of Iris's apron is 1 7/8". The armhole is 2 3/8" long.

Central Park

No, I did not fly to New York!  This is Central Park in Pasadena.  Delicious food!

I enjoyed lunch last week with my new friend, Cori.  I"m getting to know her through H Rock Church! Talk about an interesting and accomplished person! 

Friends and relationships are about my favorite thing!

When we let the Lord pour His love into us, then we have a lot of love that can funnel through us out to other people!  Cori is definitely a funnel with a big capacity for receiving and giving God's love!
